Goals-based investing

Goals-based investing is an approach which aims to help people meet a range of personal and lifestyle goals in a straightforward and simple way. It does this by placing people’s goals at the centre of the investment process and aims to build investment products that do the same.

Our multi-asset group specialises in the construction and management of goals-based portfolio solutions which focus on total return outcomes or specific goals such as generating a reliable income stream.

AMP Capital’s goals-based solutions offer an efficient and cost effective way of managing your investments by combining different asset classes, fund managers and funds management styles in a single investment portfolio.

Goals-based solutions offer:

  • exposure to multiple asset classes and sectors
  • the flexibility to respond to changing market conditions
  • a globally diversified range of opportunities
  • access to some of the world’s most recognised investment managers
  • the potential for smoother investment returns and risk protection

Philosophy and process

Investment philosophy

Investment philosophy

A goals-based strategy is not about outperforming benchmarks or competitors. It focuses more on total return outcomes or specific goals such as generating a reliable income stream. Success is measured by how well an investor’s portfolio is tracking against a stated goal.

Investment process

Investment process

We use active management to select high quality investment managers. In addition to strategic (long term) investment decisions, we employ dynamic (shorter term) allocation. This approach aims to achieve growth with smoother returns, reducing overall portfolio risks. We also aim to invest in asset classes which enhance diversification, such as infrastructure, commodities and hedge funds.
